I
had the opportunity of taking drawing and painting classes at the
beginning of the 90’s, in my city, Lima, Peru. After several years
using oil and charcoal, I found another medium that captivated me on a
very special way: “film”.
The great influences for my
work were several European postcards from beginning of the 19th
century (The Romantic Era) that I found about 20 years ago in my
grandmother’s drawer after she passed away. In my entire journey as
an artist I could never compare the emotion and excitement that
those postcards produced on my young soul, this transcendental
moment is still an inspiration on my every day work as an artist.
My soul was transformed... “I want to be there, I want to be able
to step into that surreal world, that - two dimensional world -,
this is the universe I want to explore and live forever”.
And I started my search of finding that “path” that can lead me to
that reality. I started producing photographic illustrations, and
applying all my skills as an oil painter and photographer on it.
If I ever would be able to create an image capable of producing
such an impact on a human spirit, my responsibility as an artist
would be fulfilled.

Through the use
of make up, costumes, lighting and color, I try to create a “window”
for the viewer to step inside the deep mood in which the character is
immersed.
The harlequin
and mime character exert a special fascination on me, I’ve been
using it as a white canvas in search of my own identity as a person
and as an artist.
In this times
when romanticism is becoming a thing of the past, I’m trying to regain
the “Glamour of Feeling" of the 19th century. That is why I called my
work “Digital Romanticism” where emotion and technology are mixed in
searching for an image with soul.
